When the boards are down, we'll be here. When this is down we'll be weeping in the dark.

A Holy Chip! DVD Reminder

Alright, with the boards going down earlier this week I'm extending the dead-line for all of you to get me stuff you want on the DVD of Holy Chip! in. Rather than tomorrow being the due date, it will be Tuesday the 5th of October.

Remember, the thing I wanted from all of you were fimographies, from non-actors pictures and from James director's notes.

So far I only have filmographies from Angela, Brit, Luke, Henry, Chris and Wade.

I only have a picture from Wade.

If I'm missing something from you then it just won't be on the special edition DVD which will have the full film, the alternative cut without the swear word in it, a couple of trailers of various lengths, and a little more. These will be done in time for the Nuntoberfest gathering on October 14th. I'd really appreciate it if any of you could just toss a buck my way to help cover the DVD expenses, they're fairly cheap to buy, but not quite as nice as blank CDs.

Thanks everyone for all your hard work, now we just need to reward the fruits of your labor!

ERIK!!!!

ERIK...I couldn't figure out where to change the admin e-mail on 2M, since I changed it in one place and apparently that is not it. So the transfer e-mail has been sent to your dexter hotmail account. Accept it and we should be rolling :)

Stop That Nun Television: ... cumload!

Alright, so because the boards went down I haven't had a chance to see the general reactions to the show ideas being tossed around.

Once again, I'd like to have a format locked by the time we hit the Fall Break for a good chunk of our wayward Nuns that are outside the area.

Here's what's been pitched:

1) Seth's idea of a sketch show similar to Mr. Show.
2) Erik's sitcom similar to Seinfield and Friends.
3) Gibby, James and Andy's mockumentary about three inept filmmakers similar to American Movie, but scripted.
4) James' idea for a guy waking up in alternate dimensions every episode similar to Quantum Leap.
5) Gary's idea to make a Kane and Murodch show.

Any others? Otherwise let's pound out the pros and cons.

The State of the Site 2: Electric Boogaloo

Well I checked over our usage stats a bit more. Turns out our biggest bandwidth user was still the boards. We still did almost 8 gigs of transfer on the boards alone, seeing as how we had 10 gigs of transfer total, it means that the rest of the site still only was using 2 gigs or so of transfer.

Holy Chip was merely the straw that broke the camel's back. Fofeit still had a good amount of hits, 40 views between the two versions, compared to Holy Chip which garnered a little under 80.

Of course those 80 hits did come in a little over 10 days.

And, like Andy said, Walo 2 still got ten hits. If our films continue to have these natural popularity bursts when they first hit the net and then continue at least 10-40 hits a month afterward, it'll just keep getting more demanding every time we put up a new creation.

And with the possibility of the TV show, we would be looking at a lot of new material on the site.

I'd just like to say great job to everyone on making this site a success, what ever you use Stop That Nun for, it's become so much more than it was back when we started it four years ago. What originally started as a Something Awful rip-off has become a great, close-knit community and, by central Wisconsin standards, a media production power-house.

The switch to GoDaddy is probably inevitable, as we continue to grow, perhaps even by leaps and bounds at this point, a host that can handle this type of web-site is key.

Thanks for all the memories folks, let's kick this up to the next notch.

Football and Stuff

So here's out all purpose sports, though all we really talk about is football, post for the next couple of days.

Henry, I sent you a trade in the fantasy thing, I think you'll be suprised by it :)

The Bored Post

Just for being bored and posting boring things.

Grats to Holy Chip!

I got a call today from the Central Wisconsin Film Festival and they want to show Holy Chip! on two different screens over the course of the festival! This is great news for all of us as it proves that we might not be the only ones that think it's pretty good. Forfeit and Artisan Bloodworking were not so lucky, though they may not have fit into the "family friendly" requirement feature either blow-up dolls or massive blood and gore or both.

And speaking of the family friendly requirement, the one request made of us was to remove Chris' ad-lib of "god damnit" from the film since they don't want any swearing in the film. Never mind that Chris tries to expose himself or Brit wipes her mouth off after going down on Steve, we just can't have any four letter words.

I'll work on trying a quick fix tonight, otherwise I'll see if I can get Chris to ADR something else tomorrow at Movie and Martin's.

Regardless as soon as I know more details I hope you all will show up and support our film and bring a lot of folks with you to do the same. I don't know if any of us will be giving any presentations or will be on any panels, but if I find out anything about that, I'll post it here as well.

More over, this outside verfication may be just what we need to start considering other festivals for the film. Great job everyone, I'm very proud of our work again!

Who will pay?

Alright, the site is going to be right around $80, plus we still need to pay about $30 for the renewal of the old site (I owe Erik an extra $5 from Wade) That is $110 dollars. The more people we get to commit to paying, the less it will be from everyone.

So reply to this post if you will commit to paying, whatever the amount may be. I have set up a Stop That Nun PayPal account that we can also use, I will get the info out for that shortly if you wish to pay via that.

A snag with GoDaddy...

Did some more digging, and the economy package (which is about $3.99/month max.) does NOT support PERL (which is the language our boards are written in) Getting new boards would not be hard, I know a couple off hand that are easy to install and such...but we would have to get new boards and start fresh. We COULD go up to the deluxe package, which is $6.99/month max. (the reason I say max is because they knock off a small amount per month if you purchase 12 or 24 months right away, which we probably do at least 12 months, if not more. The cost per year would be around $45 for the economy package (this includes the cost of the domain too) and probably no more than double that ($90) for the deluxe package. Now if we had as little as 9 Nuns paying, that would only be $10 per person. If we had even more than that, the price goes down. It is fully up to you guys, I will do what you want, but I would love to see us get the deluxe deal. We get a lot of great option, practically unlimited bandwidth, e-mail addresses if we wanted them, blogs, the whole works.

Ok...some more info...

Got a quick reply from GoDaddy, the hosting transfer would be quite easy, just basically a direct transfer of all of the files. And guess what? Our boards have NO database behind them. I looked into it, and all of the posts are pretty much textfiles. Weird shit, I know, but a HELLUVA lot easier to move to a new place. So we could essentially (if everything goes right) transfer everything and keep it all the same, just on a new server with better features and a SHIT TON more bandwidth (250GB, instead of 10GB)

PS - Holy Chip! (Hi-res) was DLed 64 times and the lo-res was DLed 15 times. It is getting out there, for sure! Walo 2 even got (total) 11 downloads this month.

OPTIONS RIGHT NOW...

Got a response from the ticket. We are using 113% of our allowed bandwidth right now.

Options?

1) Wait 4 days until the start of October - our bandwidth will be reset and we will be fine. We then discuss what to do from there while we have the site back up.

2) Purchase 5 additional GB of bandwidth and get the site back up now. The chick that answered my ticket "sincerely suggests" that we wait, but she doesn't know what life is like without STN.

3) Transfer everything (if possible) to a GoDaddy account right now. I did some research (also sent a few questions to GoDaddy that I will let you know the answers to when I get them) and a domain transfer can be done right on GoDaddy. It might take a few days, so we obviously would be without STN for a while. But I want to wait on this one until I get the answers back from GoDaddy.

I think our best bet right now, so we don't do anything rash, is just wait until October, figure out how easy it is to transfer to GoDaddy, and go from there.

The State of the Site

Alright, all I really truly know for now is that our site is suspended until at least the end of this month due to us exceeding our bandwidth. I submitted an urgent ticket to 2M to see if there is ANYTHING we can do right now (purchase extra bandwidth being the big thing) to get them back right now and not have to wait until October to get the site back. In any case, this is as good a time as ever to highly suggest a move to GoDaddy. Luke and I are talking on AIM right now and it will easily be feasible, I should be able to foot any bill and we can talk about expenses to Nuns later. But this isn't just mine and Luke's place. I want to get the okay from everyone before I do anything. I am a little afraid we might lose the boards if we move, since we might not be able to transfer database and stuff like that, but we will deal if we have to (I don't prefer the YABB boards anyways, I would like something I can actually edit myself, hehe) Anyways...please post thoughts and let me know.
